Danville @ Lewisburg (L, 1-3)

The visiting Ironmen were on the wrong end of a 1-3 result as both teams completed their HAC-I schedule in Lewisburg. The Green Dragons would strike quickly in the 10th minute off a goal from Zack Vaji (assisted by Matt Ayers) before Brett Lynch (assist Ayers) would add to the lead in the 25th minute ahead of the halftime break. Lynch (assist Vaji) added the insurance in the 60th minunte before Danville senior MORGAN HUMMEL recorded his first goal of the season from a set peice in the 67th minute. The result prevents the Ironmen from qualifying from the District IV "AA" tournment, of which a .500 record of better is necessary. The Ironmen took the JV match, 2-0, reversing a 0-6 defeat from earlier in the season. Danville completes its 2009 season with an overall record of 8-9-1 (7-8-1 HAC-I) and the loss was the final match for thirteen Danville seniors: AARON BEAVER, SHANE BROSS, DYLAN CROPF, GREG DIETZ, ANDREW GENTILUCCI, FILIPPO GUARINO, CHARLES HANEY, FLORIAN HERMS, MORGAN HUMMEL, SCOTT HOLDREN, JAMIE LYNN, MICHAEL MENSCH, RYAN REICHARD.

Danville @ Milton (W, 4-1)

The visiting Ironmen opened up a tight match with three second-half goals to pull away from the host Black Panthers. Danville wasted little time as senior captain ANDREW GENTILUCCI took a pass from classmate MICHAEL MENSCH in the 3rd minute to open the scoring. Milton's Jevin Tyron would level in the 16th and the match would go into the break tied. Senior DYLAN CROPF headed home an assist from A. GENTILUCCI in the 44th before sophomore GRIFFIN REBER added two insurance goals in the 55th and 75th, respectively. GENTILUCCI's goal gives him 10 on the season. CROPF's was his second; REBER's were his second and third. MENSCH notched his fifth assist. The game was played in a cold, rain/snow mix througout. The result was the 350th overall victory in the history of the Danville Ironmen boys soccer program, dating back to the fall of 1983. The result brings Danville's overall record to 8-8-1 (7-7-1 HAC-I) with one match to play. The JV match was cancelled due to weather and will not be made up. Danville concludes the regular season on Wednesday, October 21 in Lewisburg for a HAC-I match starting at 4:00 p.m.

Danville @ Williamsport (W, 1-0)

Danville earned a 1-0 shutout over Williamsport at Sheridan Field through sophomore MATT WERTMAN's 31st minute goal. Senior captian's ANDREW GENTILUCCI and SHANE BROSS assisted in the winning goal, which originated from a long throw-in near midfield by senior captain RYAN REICHARD. REICHARD also stopped the Millionaire's best chance in the 16th minute when he saved near the Ironmen goal line. WERTMAN's goal was his second of the season. BROSS also assisted in a 3-0 Danville win over Williamsport on 9/21/09, while senior goalkeeper SCOTT HOLDREN and the Ironmen defense earned the sixth shutout of the season. The result brings the Ironmen's overall record to 7-8-1 (6-7-1 HAC-I). Danville won 3-0 in the JV match. Danville travels to Milton tomorrow for a HAC-I league match set for a 4:00 p.m. start.

Shikellamy @ Danville (L, 0-2)

Shikellamy went ahead on an own goal in only the 8th minute before Eric Casey headed home a cross from Alex Lewis in the 75th at Varsity Field. Danville's best chance to equalize the early goal was through senior captain ANDREW GENTILUCCI who smashed a Matt Wertman cross off the bar in the 24th minute. The loss was the second consecutive match the Ironmen dropped by a 2-0 scoreline. The match could be the last competitive boys soccer contest on Varsity Field. The field is scheduled for the district's new elementary school, with groundbreaking currently scheduled for March 2010. The Ironmen's last three scheduled matches are on the road, with Danville next traveling to Williamsport for a HAC-I league match on Wednesday, October 12 beginning at 4:00 p.m.

East Juniata @ Danville (L, 0-2)

The Ironmen were shutout by two first-half Tiger strikes on Senior Night in Ironmen Stadium. Brandon Dressler opened the East Juniata account in the 15th minute before Mitchell Goodling collected and buried a loose ball in the box in minute 23. Goodling's goal was a result of Shane Erickson's 30-yard dead ball strike. Danville captain GREG DIETZ was shown a yellow card in the 50th minute before East Juniata's Nathan Troup and Danville's MICHAEL MENSCH were both shown a yellow on the same play in the 56th. East Juniata goalkeeper Ryan Smartwood did not register a save to three for Danville's SCOTT HOLDREN. The Tigers would also take the JV match, 4-1. Danville hosts Shikellamy for a HAC-I league match at Varsity Field on Monday, October 12 at 4:00 p.m.

Warrior Run @ Danville (W, 2-0)

Danville earned a 2-0 shutout over visiting Warrior Run in Ironmen Stadium. The result brings the Ironmen's overall record to 6-6-1 (5-6-1 HAC-I). Senior ANDREW GENTILUCCI would open the scoring on a one-time redirection of a double assist from classmates MICHAEL MENSCH and MORGAN HUMMEL in the 31st minute before adding another in the 34th minute (sophomore GRIFFIN REBER assisted). The closest the Defenders would come was a shot that found it's way past senior Danville goalkeeper SCOTT HOLDREN before striking the back post in the 48th. GENTILUCCI's goals were his team-leading 8th and 9th of the season. HOLDREN and the Danville defense posted the fifth shutout of the season and third consecutive, with the last goal conceded in the 40th minute of the match home to Mifflinburg last week. Danville won 3-0 in the JV match on a pair of goals from senior exchange student FLORIAN HERMS and one from freshman ANDREW SMITH. Danville hosts East Juniata in a Senior Recognition Night non-league match in Ironmen Stadium on Saturday, October 10 in a 7:00 p.m. start.

Danville @ Selinsgrove (T, 0-0, OT)

Danville and Selinsgrove battled through 100 minutes ending in a scoreless HAC-I draw at Steffen Memorial Field in windy conditions. The Ironmen's best chance came through senior SHANE BROSS who almost earned a Danville victory off an assist from classmate ANDREW GENTILUCCI in the last minute of extra time. The Seals had two goals disallowed over the course of the match; The first for a foul on senior Ironmen goalkeeper SCOTT HOLDREN; The second for a dangerous play in the box in extra time. Selinsgrove held the advantage in shots (15-4) and corners (7-4). This was the second consecutive year the teams ended scoreless at Steffen Memorial Field and third time in the last four meetings the teams ended tied. HOLDREN and the Ironmen defense posted the fourth shutout of the season. The JV match produced the same result. Danville hosts Warrior Run in a non-league, HAC-crossover match in Ironmen Stadium on Thursday, October 8 at 7:00 p.m.

Montoursville @ Danville (W, 3-0)

The host Ironmen (5-6-0, 5-6-0 HAC-I) would get all the scoring it would need through senior DYLAN CROPF in the 35th minute in a 3-0 result over the visiting Warriors. CROPF's one-timed, right-footed tally beat Mountoursville goalkeeper Andrew DeSanto on the short side and caromed off the near post before settling in the net ahead of the break. Classmate ANDREW GENTILUCCI provided the assist. Sophomore GRIFFIN REBER would double the advantage with an unassisted direct kick up and over the wall and off DeSanto's outstretched hands in the 56th minute. The dead ball was a result of senior SHANE BROSS being brought down at the edge of the box by two Mountoursville defenders. A. GENTILUCCI would bag his team-leading seventh goal of the season on a right-footed volley from 16 yards out in the 61st minute, with senior MICHAEL MENSCH notching the assist. REBER's goal was the first of his varsity career after striking the frame numerous times in the first half of the season. Senior Danville goalkeeper SCOTT HOLDREN and the Ironmen defense posted the third shutout of the season. Freshman ROBERT GENTILUCCI scored for the Ironmen in a 1-0 JV result. Danville travels to Selinsgrove for a HAC-I match on Wednesday, October 7 in a 4:00 p.m. start.

Mifflinburg @ Danville (L, 1-2)

Danville (4-6-0, 4-6-0 HAC-I) struck first through sophomore MATT WERTMAN who opened up the Mifflinburg defense from the far endline before beating Wildcat goalkeeper Noah Roseth on the short side for a 1-0 advantage in the 15th minute. The Ironmen looked set for a two-goal advantage when sophomore GRIFFIN REBER looked to have beaten Roseth only to have rattled the crossbar in the 24th. Ultimately, it would be Mifflinburg (7-2-2, 5-2-2 HAC-I) heading into the break with a pair of goals coming less than thirty seconds apart in the 40th minute, the first to Evan Decker (assist to Wes Doebler) and second to Mike Wagner (unassisted). Both teams created chances after the break but failed to add to the scoreline. WERTMAN's goal was the first of his varsity career. The JV match ended in a 1-1 draw with Danville's goal coming from freshmen ROBERT GENTILUCCI. Danville travels to Milton to oppose the Black Panthers on Saturday, October 3 for an 11:00 a.m. start.

Danville @ Midd-West (L, 0-3)

The homestanding Mustangs took a lead into the break before getting two more in the second half to complete a 3-0 victory at Sports Boosters Athletic Park. The order of Midd-West scoring was: Payne in the 8th; Goss in the 45th; Troutman in the 65th. Danville trailed in both shots (11-6) and corners (5-1), while the Ironmen forced Mike Iaderosa to make five saves to SCOTT HOLDREN's two. The match began the second half of the HAC-I schedule for both sides. The loss comes on the heels of Danville running off three consecutive victories in their previous three matches. Danville and Midd-West battled to a scoreless draw in the JV match. Danville hosts Mifflinburg in a HAC-I match at Varsity Field on Wednesday, September 30 at 4:30 p.m.

Lewisburg @ Danville (W, 1-0, OT)

Danville and Lewisburg battled through 80 minutes of regulation before the Ironmen defeated the Green Dragons, 1-0, through an extra time golden goal. Ironmen senior captain ANDREW GENTILUCCI outmuscled a Green Dragon defender, rounded the goalkeeper and ended the match in the 83rd minute at the cemetary end of Varsity Field. Senior MICHAEL MENSCH provided the assist. Both teams battled through the midfield and created several scoring chances throughout the match. Lewisburg senior captain Pat Swank was injured in the second half and did not return while teammate Brett Lynch was shown a yellow card in the 77th minute. GENTILUCCI's goal was his team-leading sixth in eight matches, while MENSCH now has two assists to go along with his two goals. Then-freshman MENSCH scored his first varsity goal three years ago (September 6, 2006) in a similar, 1-0, Danville result over Lewisburg. The Ironmen's third consecutive victory boosted it's record to 4-4-0 (4-4-0 HAC-I), while Lewisburg suffered it's first defeat of 2009 (7-1-0, 7-1-0 HAC-I). The Ironmen defense -- composed of seniors SCOTT HOLDREN (GK), RYAN REICHARD, CHARLES HANEY, GREG DIETZ, AARON BEAVER and sophomore ABED AMMAR -- posted it's second shutout in the last three matches. Lewisburg took the JV match, 6-0. Danville travels to Middleburg to face Midd-West at Sports Booster Athletic Park to begin the second-half of both team's HAC-I schedule on Monday, September 28 at 7:00 p.m.

Danville (3-4-0, 3-4-0 HAC-I) senior MICHAEL MENSCH opened the Ironmen account in the 2nd minute off a Griffin Reber assist before sophomore DYLAN FRIDAY scored the match-winner in the 60th minute from a ROBBIE RILEY assist en route to a 2-1 victory. Milton's Kylin Hoffman (unassisted) leveled the match in minute 47. FRIDAY's goal was the first of his varsity career while classmate RILEY's assist was his second in as many matches. The Ironmen earned a 3-0 result in the JV match. Danville hosts Lewisburg on Varsity Field in a HAC-I game on Saturday, September 26 at 11:00 a.m.

The host Ironmen (2-4-0, 2-4-0 HAC-I) recorded their first shutout of 2009 in a 3-0 result over the visiting Millionaires. Danville was lead by senior captain ANDREW GENTILUCCI who recorded a natural hat-trick with goals in the 11th, 26th and 49th minute to secure the win. He now leads the team with five goals on the season. Assists were to senior captain SHANE BROSS, senior RYAN REICHARD and sophomore ROBBIE RILEY. Senior captain SCOTT HOLDREN earned the shutout, with help from classmate MORGAN HUMMEL who saved a Williamsport shot off the line at the back post late in the second half to preserve the clean sheet. GENTILUCCI's hat-trick was the first for Danville since October 27, 2007 when then-senior TAMIR KHEIRI '08 got three against Towanda in a District IV "AA" quarterfinal. RILEY's assist was his first varsity point. The Ironmen duplicated the 3-0 result in the JV match off two goals from freshman ROBERT GENTILUCCI and a penalty kick from freshman TYLER JANI. Danville hosts MIlton in Ironmen Stadium in HAC-I make-up game on Thursday, September 24 at 7:00 p.m.

Danville lost a HAC-I road contest in Sunbury to host Shikellamy, 1-2. The Braves' Jonathan Ruths redirected an Alex Lewis cross in the first minute to open the scoring. Ironmen senior RYAN REICHARD would answer in the 18th with a shot from 20 yards that found it's way up and over Braves' goalkeeper Tyler Shambach. Ruths would complete the scoring before the half was up in minute 39 with a redirected shot off a rebound in the Danville box. The Ironmen drew the JV match, 1-1. Danville hosts Williamsport at Varsity Field in HAC-I play on Thursday, September 21 at 4:30 p.m.

Selinsgrove @ Danville (L, 1-3)

The Ironmen (1-3-0, 1-3-0 HAC-I) fell behind the visiting Seals 0-3 before the half was up and rallied before dropping a decision, 1-3, to the visitors. Danville would get a goal back in the 44th minute as senior MICHAEL MENSCH got on the end of classmate MORGAN HUMMEL's corner. Danville outshot Selinsgrove 7-3 in the second half. Selinsgrove goals were from Jared Lehman assisted by Alex Hoke in the 15th minute, Griffin Kelly assisted by Sepncer Hotaling in the 18th minute and Hotaling unassisted in the 34th minute. The Ironmen lost their first JV match of the season to Selinsgrove, 0-1. Danville travels to Sunbury and opposes Shikellamy in HAC-I play on Saturday, September 19 at 4:30 p.m.

Danville @ Montoursville (W, 3-2)

Danville (1-2-0, 1-2-0 HAC-I) earned the first victory of the 2009 season, 3-2, at Montoursville in Memorial Stadium. Senior captain ANDREW GENTILUCCI got the first two varsity goals of his career (assists to sophmores MATT WERTMAN in 11th and DYLAN FRIDAY in the 55th minutes) in the win before fellow classmate and captain SHANE BROSS got the eventual match-winner in minute 58 off a MICHAEL MENSCH assist. Montoursville's goals came from Luke McMahon in the 27th and Chase Moran in the 67th. Danville sophomore GRIFFIN REBER headed off the post before seniors MENSCH and MORGAN HUMMEL struck the frame during the match for the Ironmen. The win was Head Coach Brian Dressler's first career varsity victory. The Ironmen maintained a perfect JV record with no goals conceced in 2009 after posting a 3-0 win with goals from sophomore ABED AMMAR (unassisted), freshman ANDREW SMITH (assist to freshman MICHAEL ROCCI) and freshman ROBERT GENTILUCCI (unassisted). Danville hosts Selinsgrove in HAC-I play on Thursday, September 17 on Varsity Field at 4:30 p.m.

Danville @ Mifflinburg (L, 0-2)

The homestanding Wildcats (4-0, 2-0 HAC-I) dealt the Ironmen (0-2, 0-2 HAC-I) a second consecutive 0-2 result to open the 2009 season. Mifflinburg's Darren Tull got the Wildcats on the board in the opening half before Wes Doebler sealed the win 8 minutes from time. Doebler assisted Tull while Dryden Yost assisted Doebler. The 0-2 results in consecutive matches were both to 2008 District IV "AA" finalists. Midd-West defeated Mifflinburg last October, 1-0, before advancing to the PIAA "AA" east final. The Ironmen reversed the scoreline in the JV match, 2-0, off goals by sophomore ROBBIE RILEY and freshman ROBERT GENTILUCCI. Danville hosts Milton in HAC-I play on Thursday, September 10 in Ironmen Stadium at 7:00 p.m.

Midd-West @ Danville (L, 0-2)

Visiting Midd-West (2-1-0, 1-0-0 HAC-I) earned a 2-0 result in the season-opening HAC-I contest for Danville on Varsity Field. The difference in the match was Mustang forward Victor Morbin's two headed tallies in the 37th and 58th minutes. The former was assisted by Woody Rittmiller from the run of play and the latter came from Jaycen Goodling's restart. The Ironmen's (0-1-0, 0-1-0 HAC-I) best chance came through a first-half effort from senior MICHAEL MENSCH and senior captain ANDREW GENTILUCCI in the second. Danville senior captain SCOTT HOLDREN made several quality stops in the debut to hold the scoreline. The Ironmen defeated the Mustangs in the JV match, 2-0, through goals by sophomore JEFF HAUCK and junior TYLER MARSHALL. Danville returns to HAC-I play on Thursday, September 10 when they visit Mifflinburg at 4:30 p.m.
