East Juniata @ Danville (W, 3-2)

The Ironmen celebrated Senior Night 2005 and closed their season with a 3-2 victory over the Tigers of East Juniata in a non-league match at Ironmen Stadium. Senior JON POLER buried a rebound off a long-distance shot by junior BEN WAGNER with less than five minutes remaining in regulation to secure the win. East Juniata clawed their way back after being down 2-0 in the first-half. Danville went ahead in the 15th minute when sophomore TAMIR KHEIRI took a double-assist from juniors PHIL WEIR and NICK SMITH. KHEIRI then doubled the Ironmen lead in the 31st minute with a hard strike off an assist from fellow sophomore BRYCE PERLES. East Juniata halved the lead off a direct kick from junior Todd Grimm in the 38th minute. The Tigers leveled the match in the 64th minute as senior Daryle Trego beat the Ironmen defense. Danville completed its season with an overall record of 7-12-0 (5-7-0 SVL-East), and the JV squad finished 7-6-5 after a 1-1 draw tonight.
Shots (DAN, 7-4); Corners (EJ, 1-0); Saves (EJ-Bender 4, DAN-Hackenberg, S. 3); Halftime (DAN, 2-1); JV (1-1)

10/17/05
Danville @ Selinsgrove (L, 1-3)

All four goals were scored in the final 10 minutes and Selinsgrove sent Danville home with a 1-3 defeat. Selinsgrove junior Derek Houtz opened the scoring in the 70th minute with an 18-year shot that skimmed off the hands of senior Ironmen goalkeeper SHAWN HACKENBERG, before Ben Oswald added the eventual game-winner in minute 74 off an assist from senior K.C. Mayer. Junior NICK SMITH halved the lead in the 78th minute with a header off junior ERIC TEMMEL's direct kick before Selinsgrove completed the scoring less than a minute later. Ironmen sophomore JOSH HACKENBERG made his first varsity start in goal for Danville, but had to leave the match with less than 15 minutes remaining after suffering a kick to the head. The JV match saw the Ironmen and Seals draw 0-0. The Ironmen will honor its senior class tomorrow night and close the season at home when they host East Juniata in a non-league match in Ironmen Stadium at 7:00 p.m.
Shots (9-9); Corners (SEL, 5-1); Saves (DAN-Hackenberg, J. 3 & Hackenberg, S. 0, SEL Moyer 5); Halftime (0-0); JV (0-0)

10/15/05
Danville @ Central Columbia (L, 0-1)

Central Columbia made a goal in the fifth minute by senior Cole Diltz stand up as they dealt Danville a 0-1 loss. The Ironmen complete their 2005 SVL-East league schedule with a 5-7-0 record, while their overall record falls to 6-11-0. Diltz capitalized on an early miscommunication by the Danville defense and won a race to the ball before settling it in the net. Both teams created scoring chances in both halves, with Danville's best coming after sophomore TAMIR KHEIRI earned a penalty kick with under 10 minutes to play, but senior JON POLER was unable to convert from the spot. In JV action, sophomore JORDAN BEAVER netted two goals to give the Ironmen a 2-0 victory, upping the JV record to 7-6-3. Danville travels to Selinsgrove on Monday, October 17, to make up the previously rained-out, non-league match at 4:00 p.m.
Shots (DAN, 6-4); Corners (DAN, 5-4); Saves (DAN-Hackenberg, S. 2 & Hackenberg, J. 0, CC-Frace 5); Halftime (CC, 1-0); JV (DAN, 2-0)

10/13/05
Loyalsock @ Danville (L, 1-2)

Loyalsock junior Adam Scheibler's direct kick bent above and around a Danville wall before finding the near corner with only only eight minutes to play, lifting the Lancers to a 2-1 non-league victory. Scheibler's strike nullified senior JON POLER's leveling goal for the Ironmen in minute 60 off CAMERON HASSANZADEH's assist. It was Scheibler who opened the scoring for Loyalsock in the 24th minute on a solo breakaway effort. The loss mathematically eliminates Danville from District IV playoff contention by dropping the Ironmen to 6-10-0 with only three matches remaining (a .500 record is needed to qualify). The Ironmen did deal the Lancers a 5-1 defeat in the JV match, with five different Ironmen finding the net: Freshmen GREG BOWSER (assist to junior PHIL KYLE); sophomore BRIAN BASTIAN (assist to freshman TYLER MARSHALL); sophomore JORDAN BEAVER (unassisted); freshman DAVID FANELLI (assist to junior KYLE PEREZ); and junior LIAM SWINEY (assist to freshman ANDY SANDERS). Danville is back in action on Saturday, October 15, to close out its SVL-East schedule when the team visits Central Columbia at 2:00 p.m.

Danville @ Southern Columbia (L, 0-2)

Two second-half goals less than four minutes apart ended the Ironmen's four-match winning streak. The Tigers' Brett Payne scored first in the 54th minute, unassisted, before Tim Bodman buried a Corey Parry assist 58 minutes in to complete the scoring. Both teams had several scoring opportunities, with Danville getting the better of first-half play before Southern took control of the latter half of the match. Danville's four-match winning streak had dated back to a 2-1 decision over Midd-West on October 4. The Ironmen (6-9-0, 5-6-0 SVL-East) host Loyalsock in a non-league match tomorrow at 4:00 p.m.

Bloomsburg @ Danville (W, 2-0)

Danville (6-8-0, 5-5-0 SVL-East) got two first-half goals and was able to frustrate the Bloomsburg attack in the second half to finish off a 2-0 shutout victory, avenging an earlier 0-1 defeat to the Panthers. Sophomore TAMIR KHEIRI got the Ironmen rolling with an individual effort in the 17th minute before senior JUSTIN MESCHTER climbed above the Panther defense to head home ERIC TEMMEL's free kick in minute 38. MESCHTER's goal made him the 11th Danville player to score a goal this season. Danville juniors LANCE RICHARDSON, BEN WAGNER and AARON WERTMAN joined TEMMEL on defense and limited Bloomsburg to a pair of shots. Danville travels to face Southern Columbia on Wednesday, October 12, for a 4:00 p.m. SVL-East match.

Central leveled the match nine minutes later as Nolt again found the net, this time off a direct kick from senior Eric Mordan. Both teams battled through the first 10 minutes of extra time before TEMMEL ended the match with a 30-yard shot over the outstretched hands of Central's keeper, senior Scott Frace. 10/1/05
Warrior Run @ Danville (L, 0-1)

Warrior Run's Micah Watts broke a 0-0 deadlock well into the second half to earn the Defenders the victory. Watts' goal came after senior Danville keeper SHAWN HACKENBERG came charging out to intercept a long through ball only to see the deflection fall to Watts, who was just out of reach of the Danville defense. Both defenses played physically and were able to keep the opposing offenses off-balance. The loss is Danville's third 0-1 defeat of the season -- five of the team's seven losses were by only one goal.
