Danville v. Warrior Run (L, 1-2, OT)
PIAA District IV "AA" semifinal
Playing their second match in as many days at the Balls Mills Soccer Complex in Williamsport, the Ironmen were eliminated from the PIAA District IV "AA" tournament in the semifinals by Warrior Run, 1-2, in extra time. After the teams played a scoreless first half, Danville junior BRYCE PERLES collected a failed clearance by the Warrior Run defense and buried a bending shot from the right side of the box just inside the far post and out of goalkeeper David Marr's reach to put the Ironmen ahead in the 61st minute. Warrior Run junior Schuyler Pontius then squared the match late for the Defenders off a set piece just outside the box in the 78th minute. Junior David Brungard sent Warrior Run through to the final with an unassisted golden goal in the 85th minute. The contest was the Ironmen's ninth match of the season requiring extra time, of which their record was 4-2-3. Danville completes its 2006 season with an overall record of 14-5-3 (11-2-2 SVL) and the loss was the final match for 13 Danville seniors: MICHAEL HANNON, AHMED KHEIRI, JOSH LINDENBERGER, PHIL KYLE, KYLE PEREZ, LANCE RICHARDSON, NICK SMITH, LIAM SWINEY, ERIC TEMMEL, BEN WAGNER, MARK WEIR, PHIL WEIR and AARON WERTMAN.

Mount Carmel v. Danville (W, 3-0)
PIAA District IV "AA" quarterfinal
The Ironmen (14-4-3) secured a berth in the PIAA District IV "AA" semifinals with a 3-0 victory over Mount Carmel in a quarterfinal match played at the Balls Mills Soccer Complex in Williamsport. Danville senior JOSH LINDENBERGER scored on a volley in the 40th minute to put the Ironmen on the board just shy of the halftime break. He was assisted by fellow senior AARON WERTMAN. WERTMAN then buried a header and doubled the Danville lead after taking a double assist from juniors BRYCE PERLES and TAMIR KHEIRI in minute 59. Senior NICK SMITH completed the scoreline with a penalty kick in the 77th minute. The shutout was the 10th of the season for the Ironmen defense. The match was the first meeting between the two schools in boys soccer, as well as Mount Carmel's first appearance in the PIAA District IV "AA" tournament. The loss ends the Red Tornadoes' season with a 14-7 overall record. Danville will now face Warrior Run (who defeated Shikellamy 1-0 in an extra-time quarterfinal) in the semifinals at the Balls Mills Soccer Complex on Tuesday, October 31, at 7:00 p.m.

Danville @ The Hill School (T, 1-1, OT)
The Ironmen concluded their regular season with a tie in Pottstown against the Rams. Danville went ahead in the 13th minute off senior AHMED KHEIRI's header, converted from a throw-in by senior PHIL WEIR, only to surrender its lead in the waning moments. The Hill School equalized in minute 79 with a goal by Ryan Dietrich (assisted by Franklin Floyd). Junior goalkeeper JOSH HACKENBURG made seven saves in a strong performance for the visitors. The Danville JV squad dropped its final match of the season 0-4 to the The Hill School and completes the 2006 season with a final record of 13-2-3. The Ironmen varsity squad completes its regular season with an overall record of 13-4-3 (11-2-2 SVL) and now await a date, opponent and location for its opening match of the 2006 PIAA District IV "AA" tournament.

Danville @ Milton (W, 3-2, OT)
After waiting two weeks to resume its SVL match with Milton, Danville capitalized on its 1-0 lead to earn a 3-2 extra time victory on the strength of two goals by senior NICK SMITH. On October 4, Danville went ahead 1-0 when junior TAMIR KHEIRI volleyed an assist from SMITH in the 15th minute. The contest was suspended with 5:09 remaining in the first half due to lightning and heavy storms in the area. After resuming play on October 18, Milton got on the board in the 46th minute off a goal from sophomore Michael Grasso, quickly followed in minute 47 by junior Austin Cohrs' header (assisted by sophomore Stephen Moore's corner kick) to give the Black Panthers a 2-1 advantage. Danville rebounded when Milton senior defender Nate Young caught with his right hand what appeared to be an Ironmen goal in minute 65. Young was penalized with a red card and Danville was awarded a penalty kick, which SMITH converted. After several near misses, SMITH completed the day with his second goal to end the match, assisted by sophomore ERIC KISHBAUGH in minute 82. With the result, Danville completes its 2006 SVL campaign with a league record of 11-2-2, second-best in the eastern division to Lewisburg's overall tally of 13-2-0. The JV match with Milton ended with Danville securing a 3-0 victory. Order of JV scoring was: sophomore GREG BOWSER (assisted by sophomore JERRY TEMMEL), BOWSER (assisted by sophomores ANDY SANDERS and TEMMEL) and freshman GREG DIETZ (assisted by freshman RYAN REICHARD). Danville completes its regular season with a trip to Pottstown to face The Hill School on Saturday, October 21, in a 4:00 p.m. match.

Junior BRYCE PERLES got the Ironmen (12-4-2, 10-2-2 SVL) on the board only 18 seconds into the match, and Danville never looked back in its 5-0 SVL victory over Mifflinburg. PERLES then assisted fellow junior TAMIR KHEIRI in minute 8 before senior JOSH LINDENBERGER finished a cross from freshman MICHAEL MENSCH in the 33rd minute. T. KHEIRI netted another goal off a double assist from his brother, senior AHMED KHEIRI, and sophomore ERIC KISHBAUGH. Sophomore BEN FORBES finished the scoring with his first career varsity goal, assited by junior JORDAN BEAVER. T. KHEIRI's goals push his team-leading total to 13, and PERLES leads the team in assists with 11. In the JV match, Danville drew Mifflinburg 1-1. The Ironmen's lone goal was by FORBES, assisted by sophomore ANDY SANDERS. Danville returns to Milton on Wednesday, October 14, to resume the match suspended due to weather on the 4th. In that match, the Ironmen are ahead 1-0 in the 35th minute of play.

Central Mountain @ Danville (L, 0-2)
Central Mountain netted a goal each half to upend Danville, 0-2, on a cold and windy Parent Recognition Night in Ironmen Stadium. The Wildcats opened the scoring in the ninth minute when senior Paul Brungard finished a corner, then completed the scoreline when junior Alex Null capitalized on an Ironmen mistake at the back in minute 53. His score was unassisted. The loss snaps the Ironmen's seven-match run without a defeat, which dated back to September 21. Central Mountain's early goal also ended Danville's consecutive match shutout streak at six, a span of more than 500 minutes since the Ironmen defense -- composed of junior goalkeeper JOSH HACKENBERG, junior defender JORDAN BEAVER and senior defenders LANCE RICHARDSON, BEN WAGNER, ERIC TEMMEL, PHIL WEIR and LIAM SWINEY -- conceded a goal to Central Columbia on September 23rd. The shutout streak is an all-time record for the program. Danville's JV squad lost its first match of the season, 0-3 to Central Mountain, and falls to 12-1-2. Danville travels to Mifflinburg on Saturday, October 14, for a 2:30 p.m. SVL match-up.

A penalty kick in the 93rd minute secured another late result in Danville's favor, this time over SVL opponent Shikellamy (9-7-1, 7-4-1 SVL). Junior JORDAN BEAVER took the shot after junior TAMIR KHEIRI earned the kick when he was taken down in the box during the second extra-time session. For the third extra-time match in a row, Danville's defense held strong to post its sixth consecutive shutout, and eighth of the campaign. The JV team (12-0-2) extended its winning streak with a 1-0 win over Shikellamy. Freshman MORGAN HUMMEL scored the lone goal, with an assist from fellow freshman SHANE BROSS. The Ironmen (11-3-2, 9-2-2 SVL) will honor seniors and their parents on Parent Recognition Night when they host the Central Mountain Wildcats on Thursday, October 12, at 7:00 p.m. in Ironmen Stadium.

Danville (10-3-2, 8-2-2 SVL) senior JOSH LINDENBERGER scored an unassisted golden goal 8 minutes into extra time to secure a late result over SVL and Route 11 rival Bloomsburg (10-6-0, 8-5-0 SVL). In what was a frustrating day for the Ironmen offense, their defensive counterparts kept a clean sheet against the Panthers to secure the team's fifth consecutive shutout. The Danville JV squad continued its winning ways with a 3-0 result over Bloomsburg, pushing its record to 11-0-2. Goalscorers were sophomore PETER BLAKENSHIP (assisted by sophomore JERRY TEMMEL), sophomore BEN FORBES (assisted by sophomore GREG BOWSER) and sophomore ANDREW O'ROURKE (assisted by freshman MORGAN HUMMEL). The Ironmen complete a home SVL back-to-back tomorrow afternoon on Varsity Field against Shikellamy at 4:00 p.m.

The Ironmen (9-3-2, 7-2-2 SVL) and Defenders (11-2-1, 8-2-1 SVL) battled through regulation and two scoreless extra-time periods before ending in a 0-0 draw at Ironmen Stadium. Junior goalkeeper JOSH HACKENBERG came up with a big save in extra time to preserve the tie for the hosts, while his defense held the Defenders to seven shots in the constest. The Ironmen's best scoring chances came early in the match, first off a corner by junior BRYCE PERLES and then, with less than 15 minutes of regulation to go, with a near-miss by senior NICK SMITH. Warrior Run had a goal disallowed seconds before the halftime break with a dangerous play call by the official. This result secures Danville a PIAA District IV "AA" playoff spot. In JV action, the Ironmen routed the Defenders with an 8-1 scoreline to push their record to 10-0-2. Danville (9-3-1, 7-2-1 SVL) got all the offense it needed from seniors AARON WERTMAN and NICK SMITH early in the match for a 2-0 SVL road victory at Sheridan Field. Both scored with headers. WERTMAN took an assist from fellow senior JOSH LINDENBERGER in the 9th minute. SMITH completed the scoring in minute 14, assisted by senior LIAM SWINEY. Junior Ironmen goalkeeper JOSH HACKENBERG earned his third consecutive shutout, and the Danville defense has conceded only two goals in its last five matches. In JV action, Danville repeated the varsity's 2-0 scoreline, with goals from sophomore PETER BLANKENSHIP, assisted by freshman SHANE BROSS, and sophomore BEN FORBES, assisted by sophomore GREG BOWSER. The win pushed the JV record to 9-0-2. Danville hosts Warrior Run in SVL play at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, October 2 in Ironmen Stadium.

Danville (8-3-1, 6-2-1 SVL) put together its third straight victory and second consecutive shutout in a 6-0 SVL victory over Jersey Shore. Junior TAMIR KHEIRI opened the scoring in the fourth minute, unassisted, before his brother, senior AHMED KHEIRI, doubled the lead in minute 13 with another unassisted effort. T. KHEIRI netted his second of the afternoon in the 23rd minute off an assist from fellow junior BRYCE PERLES. Freshman MICHAEL MENSCH completed the first-half scoring off senior MICHAEL HANNON's first career assist in the 32nd minute. Senior JOSH LINDENBERGER took an assist from T. KHEIRI in the 45th minute before junior JORDAN BEAVER closed the ledger with an assist from junior BRIAN BASTIAN. T. KHEIRI's goals were his 9th and 10th of the season, while PERLES added his 10th assist of the campaign. Both lead the team in their respective categories. In JV action, the Ironmen duplicated the varsity's 6-0 result over the Bulldogs with the order of scoring as follows: Sophomore ANDY SANDERS (unassisted), freshman DYLAN CROPF (assist to sophomore BEN FORBES), freshman MORGAN HUMMEL (assist to CROPF), sophomore ANDREW O'ROURKE (unassisted), O'ROURKE (assist to sophomore MICHAEL JANTZI) and HUMMEL (assist to junior CHRIS BOND). Danville travels to Williamsport on Friday, September 29, for a 3:30 p.m. start, to make up a match originally scheduled for earlier in the season.

Off the strength of two goals from senior AARON WERTMAN, Danville notched its third shutout of the 2006 campaign. WERTMAN took an assist from junior TAMIR KHEIRI in the 40th minute to put the Ironmen ahead just before the halftime break. WERTMAN then finished a well-flighted corner from junior BRYCE PERLES to complete the scoring in minute 61. Senior JOSH LINDENBERGER had a goal called back midway through the first half by an unlucky offsides call. Senior BEN WAGNER led a strong defensive effort to secure the Ironmen victory, backed by junior goalkeeper JOSH HACKENBERG, seniors ERIC TEMMEL, PHIL WEIR and LIAM SWINEY, and junior JORDAN BEAVER. In JV action, Danville drew Selinsgrove 1-1 with a goal by sophomore DAVID FANELLI late in the contest. The JV squad is 7-0-2 on the season. The Ironmen return to SVL play Wednesday, September 27, at 4:30 p.m. when they host Jersey Shore.

After a run of three defeats in four days, Danville got back in the winning column with a 2-1 result over Central Columbia in Ironmen Stadium. Junior TAMIR KHEIRI wasted little time to put the Ironmen ahead in the sixth minute after taking an assist from senior NICK SMITH. Danville senior JOSH LINDENBERGER netted the eventual match-winner off an assist from senior AARON WERTMAN in minute 13. The Blue Jays halved the lead in the 53rd minute off an unassisted direct kick from TJ Brandt, but were unable to break down the Ironmen defense the rest of the way. In JV action, Danville got goals from sophomore GREG BOWSER (assist to freshman SHANE BROSS), BEN FORBES (unassisted), freshman MORGAN HUMMEL (assist to freshman ANDREW GENTILUCCI) and junior CHRIS BOND (assist to sophomore ANDREW O'ROURKE) in a 4-1 victory. Danville is back in action on Monday, September 25, against league and district playoff foe Selinsgrove at 4:30 p.m.

Danville (5-3-1, 3-2-1 SVL) dropped its third match in four days to SVL opponent MIdd-West, 0-1. The Ironmen opened the season with a six-match unbeaten streak. After the teams went into the break scoreless, Mustang junior Theron Herbster got the match's lone tally, unassisted, in the 56th minute. Midd-West had the better of first-half play, while Danville stepped up its work rate in the second half in what turned into a tightly contested affair. In JV action, Danville turned the tables on Midd-West with a 1-0 victory off sophomore GREG BOWSER's goal from freshmen DYLAN CROPF's assist. The Ironmen are back in action Saturday, September 23rd, when they host the Central Columbia Blue Jays in Ironmen Stadium at 7:00 pm.

Less than 24 hours after dropping their first match of the season, the Ironmen traveled to Southern Columbia and lost a hard-fought 1-2 decision in extra time. After a scoreless first half, senior AARON WERTMAN opened the scoring for Danville off an assist from junior TAMIR KHEIRI in the 48th minute. The Tigers responded in the 51st minute with a solo effort from senior Kevin Rhoades. The Tigers wasted little time getting the winner in minute 83 with an unassisted golden goal by senior Ryan Gearhart. In JV action, the Ironmen extended their shutout streak to four matches with a 2-0 victory. Freshman SHANE BROSS scored off a double assist from sophomores ANDY SANDERS and GREG BOWSER. BOWSER added to the tally with an assist by sophomore ANDREW O'ROURKE. Danville (5-2-1, 3-1-1 SVL) hosts Midd-West on Thursday, September 21, at 4:30 p.m.

Danville dropped its first match of the season in a 1-2 loss at East Juniata. All the scoring came in the first 22 minutes and the Tigers held off the Ironmen in the second half. East Juniata senior Todd Grimm opened the scoring, assisted by fellow senior Denton Amey in the 10th minute. Danville responded two minutes later as juniors TAMIR KHEIRI and BRYCE PERLES got together for KHEIRI's seventh goal of the season. The assist was PERLES' eighth. Grimm again found the net in the 22nd minute off an assist from sophomore Harry Minium. The Ironmen drew the JV match with the Tigers, 0-0. Danville (5-1-1, 3-0-1 SVL) is back in action tomorrow afternoon when they travel to face SVL opponent Southern Columbia at 4:30 p.m.

Senior AHMED KHEIRI and freshman MICHAEL MENSCH both scored twice, and junior BRYCE PERLES added three assists, in Danville's Saturday night 7-1 win over Shamokin in Ironmen Stadium. For the second consecutive match, Danville opened the scoring before the contest was two minutes old. A. KHEIRI took an assist from senior NICK SMITH to put the Ironmen ahead, followed by junior TAMIR KHEIRI, who hooked up with PERLES for the second Ironmen goal in the 12th minute. T. KHEIRI assisted senior ERIC TEMMEL's first goal of the season on a free kick before the half in minute 39. Shamokin's Steve Backes got the Indians on the board off a corner in the 47th minute. MENSCH responded for Danville less than a minute later, with the assist going to senior AARON WERTMAN. A. KHEIRI's second goal, a 20-yard blast in the 51st minute, was assisted by PERLES. MENSCH converted another PERLES assist in the 61st minute before junior BRIAN BASTIAN netted his first career goal, assisted by sophomore ERIC KISHBAUGH in minute 73. Danville, 5-0-1 (3-0-1 SVL) travels to face East Juniata in another non-league match on Monday, September 18, at 7:00 p.m.

Junior TAMIR KHEIRI's hat trick was the highlight of Danville's 5-1 SVL victory at Hughesville's Spartan Stadium Thursday night. Senior AARON WERTMAN opened the scoring with the match less than two minutes old, off an assist by senior AHMED KHEIRI. Hughesville's Zach Murray responded in the sixth minute off Michael Duff's assist. The match remained tied until T. KHEIRI struck in the 35th and 37th minute, with assists by juniors JORDAN BEAVER and BRIAN BASTIAN, respectively. Senior NICK SMITH stretched the lead with a header off WERTMAN's cross in the 46th minute. T. KHEIRI completed the hat trick with an assist from fellow junior BRYCE PERLES in the 57th minute. Danville's record improved to 4-0-1 (3-0-1 SVL). In JV action, Danville won 3-0 on the strength of goals by sophomores GREG BOWSER and ANDREW O'ROURKE, and freshman MORGAN HUMMEL. Junior JOSH HACKENBERG and the Ironmen defense posted their second shutout of the season as Danville (3-0-1, 2-0-1 SVL) beat Millville (1-4-0, 0-4-0 SVL) at home. Senior AHMED KHEIRI's goal in the 10th minute, off junior BRYCE PERLES' redirected cross, was enough to seal the win for the Ironmen. The Ironmen (2-0-1, 1-0-1 SVL) made freshman MICHAEL MENSCH's first career goal stand up in a hard-fought, 1-0 victory at Lewisburg (3-1-0, 2-1-0 SVL). The teams remained scoreless for 50 minutes before Mensch flicked the ball past Lewisburg goalkeeper Allen Mackey in the 51st minute, off senior MARK WEIR's throw-in. The match, a total team effort, was junior goalkeeper JOSH HACKENBERG's first career shutout. In JV action, sophomore GREG BOWSER scored the game-winner off sophomore TYLER MARSHALL's assist to give the Ironmen a 2-1 victory. Freshman SHANE BROSS initiated the scoring with an assist from sophomore ERIC KISHBAUGH. Danville hosts Millville Tuesday, September 12, at 4:30 p.m.

Montoursville @ Danville (T, 1-1, OT)
Despite statistically overwhelming the Montoursville (2-0-1, 0-0-1 SVL) defense, only one of Danville's 20 shots was converted. Junior BRYCE PERLES did the honors, unassisted, in the 26th minute off a set piece. Montoursville's Zane McKibben answered in the 33rd minute with the Warrior's first and only shot in the first half. The Ironmen had a goal disallowed seconds before halftime, and were unable to reclaim it in the second half and two extra time sessions. In JV action, freshmen GREG DIETZ and MORGAN HUMMEL netted goals for the Ironmen in their season-opening win. Danville (1-0-1, 0-0-1 SVL) travels to Lewisburg Saturday, September 9, for an 11:00 a.m. kick-off.

Danville @ Loyalsock (W, 3-2, OT)
Danville (1-0-0) opened its 2006 campaign with a 3-2 extra time result over Loyalsock (0-1-0) in the first-ever high school soccer match played at the new Balls Mills Sports Complex in Williamsport. After a scoreless first half, Loyalsock's Jeff Smith opened the Lancer's account with an unassisted free kick less than two minutes into the second half. Junior TAMIR KHEIRI answered in the 48th minute off junior BRYCE PERLES' first assist. Less than two minutes later, senior NICK SMITH played a long through ball to senior AARON WERTMAN to put the Ironmen up 2-1. Loyalsock's Smith again found the net on a lofted ball in the 60th minute to level the match. KHEIRI ended the game with a golden goal strike in the 83rd minute, off a double assist from WERTMAN and PERLES. Danville returns to Lycoming County on Tuesday, September 6, to face Williamsport at 4:30 p.m.
