Shikellamy v. Danville (L, 1-2, OT)

PIAA District IV "AA" semifinal
For the second consecutive season, the Ironmen were eliminated from the PIAA District IV "AA" tournament in the semifinal round. Shikellamy defeated Danville, 1-2, in extra time at Millville's Ludwig Stadium. After the teams played a scoreless first half, Danville junior JERRY TEMMEL found himself unmarked and buried a shot from 8 yards out after sophomore MICHAEL MENSCH headed on a deep free kick by senior JORDAN BEAVER in the 48th minute, to give the Ironmen a 1-0 advantage. After pushing for a goal, Shikellamy senior Aaron Persing then leveled the scoreline for the Braves on an unassisted goal from the right side in the 73rd minute. Junior Jarret Clark sent Shikellamy through to the final with an unassisted extra time golden goal in the 86th minute. The loss ended Danville's nine-match winning streak, dating back to a 0-1 loss at Warrior Run on September 26. The contest was the Ironmen's sixth match of the season requiring extra time, of which their record was 2-2-2. Danville completes its 2007 season with an overall record of 17-3-2 (12-2-1 SVL) and the loss was the final match for six Danville seniors: BRIAN BASTIAN, JORDAN BEAVER, CHRIS BOND, JOSH HACKENBERG, TAMIR KHEIRI and BRYCE PERLES.

Towanda v. Danville (W, 6-0)
PIAA District IV "AA" quarterfinal

The Ironmen (17-2-2) advanced to the PIAA District IV "AA" semifinals with a 6-0 victory over No. 7-seeded Towanda in a quarterfinal match played at Bloomsburg University's Sports Stadium. Danville senior TAMIR KHEIRI buried a header inside the back post off an assist from fellow senior BRYCE PERLES in the 5th minute to open the scoring. KHEIRI and PERLES teamed up again in minute 23, with KHEIRI drilling home a shot from 16 yards out to double the advantage. Senior JORDAN BEAVER completed the first-half scoring when the ball fell to him in the box off a corner scramble in the 28th minute. PERLES kept things going for Danville, scoring unassisted only 16 seconds after the break to make it 4-0. KHEIRI assisted junior ERIC KISHBAUGH in the 46th. KHEIRI was assisted for a third time by PERLES to complete the scoring in the 56th minute. KHEIRI's hat-trick was his fourth of the season and third in Danville's last four matches. PERLES' goal was his 11th, and the day's three assists take him to 18 on the season (breaking SETH FORNWALT's '05 single-season record of 17, set in 2004). KISHBAUGH's goal was his third and BEAVER's was his 6th of the season. The shutout was the 10th of the season for senior goalkeeper JOSH HACKENBERG and the Ironmen defense. The loss ends the Black Knights' 2007 campaign with a 10-9-1 overall record. Danville will now face Shikellamy (which defeated Milton, 2-1, in a quarterfinal decided by penalty kicks after extra-time) in the semifinals at Millville's Ludwig Stadium on Tuesday, October 30, at 5:00 p.m.

East Juniata @ Danville (W, 2-0)

The Ironmen concluded their regular season with a 2-0 non-league victory at Varsity Field over the visiting Tigers. Danville senior BRYCE PERLES opened the scoring in the 18th minute when he made a move to free himself 12 yards from goal and finished a left-footed shot inside the back post. Senior JORDAN BEAVER assisted. PERLES later found senior TAMIR KHEIRI streaking through the East Juniata defense in minute 55. KHEIRI beat sophomore goalkeeper Ryan Smartwood with the outside of his right before the shot settled inside the far post. The Ironmen defense -- composed of senior goalkeeper JOSH HACKENBERG, senior JORDAN BEAVER, juniors JERRY TEMMEL and TYLER MARSHALL, and sophomore RYAN REICHARD -- earned the shutout. PERLES' assist was the 30th of his career, establishing a new all-time Danville HS record. KHEIRI's strike was his 21st of 2007 and 40th career tally. The Danville JV squad drew its final match of the season, 2-2, with East Juniata. Sophomore MORGAN HUMMEL assisted both Danville goals to junior ERIC SNOVER and sophomore LUCAS FRANKLIN. Both goals were the first career goals for SNOVER and FRANKLIN. The JV squad completes the 2007 season with a final record of 10-2-5. The Ironmen varsity squad completes its regular season with an overall record of 16-2-2 (12-2-1 SVL) and now await a date, opponent and location for their opening match of the 2007 PIAA District IV "AA" tournament.

Mifflinburg @ Danville (W, 3-0)

The Ironmen (15-2-2, 12-2-1 SVL) blanked the Wildcats, 3-0, in the SVL finale for both sides at Varsity Field. Both Danville and Mifflinburg will be members of the Pennsylvania Heartland Athletic Conference beginning next school year. Danville senior BRYCE PERLES assisted on classmate TAMIR KHEIRI's first two goals (2nd and 10th minutes) to draw him even with SETH FORNWALT '05 for a tie atop the Danville High School career assist list at 29. KHEIRI's last, unassisted tally put the game away for the Ironmen in minute 79, and completed his second consecutive hat trick and third on the season. Ironmen senior JOSH HACKENBERG and the Danville defense recorded their eighth shutout of the year. Danville concludes the 2007 SVL schedule with a record of 12-2-1, second to Lewisburg's 14-0-1 in the Eastern Division. In the JV match, Danville defeated Mifflinburg 2-1. Danville goals were credited to sophomore DYLAN CROPF (assist to sophomore ANDREW GENTILUCCI) and sophomore MORGAN HUMMEL. Danville concludes the regular season at Varsity Field on Thursday, October 18, against East Juniata in a non-league match at 4:00 p.m.

Ironmen senior TAMIR KHEIRI registered his second hat trick of 2007 and added two assists in a 5-2 victory over the visiting Millionaires. It was fellow senior BRYCE PERLES who took KHEIRI's first assist in the 14th minute to give Danville the lead. KHEIRI was then assisted by junior JERRY TEMMEL in the 18th and junior ERIC KISHBAUGH in the 32nd minute to establish a 3-0 halftime advantage. The Millionaires got off the mark quickly out of the break in the 42nd minute, when Samuel Hunter finished an assist from Anthony Agnone. Williamsport then closed the gap to 3-2 when Matthew Pride scored unassisted in minute 55. Danville junior ANDY SANDERS buried a header off KHEIRI's cross in the 61st to restablish the two-goal advantage. KHEIRI completed the scoring after sophomore MICHAEL MENSCH found him in the final minute of the match. In the shortened JV match, Danville and Williamsport played 30 minutes to a 0-0 draw. Danville (14-2-2, 11-2-1 SVL) hosts Mifflinburg in the SVL finale at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 17, in a rescheduled match at Varsity Field.

The Ironmen defeated the visiting Little Lions, 2-1, in a non-league match on Senior Recognition Night in Ironmen Stadium. Danville (13-2-2, 10-2-1 SVL) got started in the 7th minute when senior TAMIR KHEIRI was taken down in the box by State College senior Zach Kight. Senior JORDAN BEAVER converted to make it 1-0. State College responded when junior Jake Gazda scored directly on a cross from the right side in the 18th minute. The teams went into the break tied, and both pressured the opposition throughout the first 20 minutes of the second half. It was Ironmen senior BRYCE PERLES who slotted home the eventual match-winner inside the left post from 10 yards out off an assist from fellow senior TAMIR KHEIRI in minute 65 for the 2-1 edge. Danville dropped the JV match to State College, 1-2. The Little Lions went ahead by two in the first half, before Ironmen sophomore ANDREW GENTILUCCI converted a penalty in the second half. The Danville JV record now stands at 9-2-3. Danville returns to SVL play when they host Williamsport at Varsity Field on Monday, October 15, at 4:00 p.m.

The Ironmen (12-2-2, 10-2-1 SVL) pocketed two first-half goals and stretched the lead to three early in the second before defeating the host Braves 3-1 on a hot and humid afternoon in Sunbury. Danville senior TAMIR KHEIRI found his way behind the Shikellamy defense after taking an assist from sophomore RYAN REICHARD. KHEIRI ricochetted a shot off the far post, and the ball rolled square over the goal line before the official ruled the score in minute 12. Ironmen junior ANDY SANDERS then won a penalty kick in the 30th minute, which senior JORDAN BEAVER converted to double the lead. Danville senior BYRCE PERLES took an assist from fellow senior BRIAN BASTIAN and lofted a shot over the oncoming Shikellamy goalkeeper, senior Evan Gombert, in the 42nd minute. The Braves pulled a goal back on a free kick from senior Jared Jones in the 62nd minute. In JV action, Daville blanked Shikellamy 5-0. The order of scoring was: sophomore ANDREW GENTILUCCI, GENTILUCCI, sophomore MORGAN HUMMEL, freshman TOM HUBER, Shikellamy (own goal). The Hill School @ Danville (W, 1-0, OT)

The Ironmen (11-2-2, 9-2-1 SVL) and the visiting Rams needed extra time to decide the non-league match at Ironmen Stadium, with Danville pulling out the win, 1-0. After both sides counted each other through regulation, the difference was Danville senior TAMIR KHEIRI's unassisted 25-yard dipping volley over junior Hill goalkeeper Carter Rufe in the 86th minute. Both teams chased the winner in regulation, but Ironmen senior goalkeeper JOSH HACKENBERG and Rufe made several big saves. HACKENBERG's eight saves earned his seventh shutout on the season. Danville and The Hill School also battled 0-0 through regulation before the JV match ended in a draw. The Danville JV record now stands at 8-1-3. Both sides travel to Sunbury on Monday, October 8, for an SVL match with Shikellamy at 4:00 p.m.

Danville recorded its tenth win of the season in a 3-1 SVL road victory at Bloomsburg. After playing a scoreless first half, Ironmen senior BRYCE PERLES opened the scoring after taking as assist from sophomore MICHAEL MENSCH in the 44th minute. Bloomsburg slowly changed the run of play and leveled the match on junior Jared Shannon's unassisted strike in minute 56. Danville battled back and found the eventual match-winner through senior TAMIR KHEIRI in the 73rd minute (unassisted). KHEIRI added an an insurance goal in the 78th minute after PERLES beat the Bloomsburg defense and crossed. KHEIRI's goals were his team-leading 11th and 12th of the season, while PERLES recorded his sixth goal and team-leading 12th assist. Danville (10-2-2, 9-2-1 SVL) next hosts The Hill School in a non-league match on Saturday, October 6, in Ironmen Stadium at 7:30 p.m. (JV match kicks off at 6:00 p.m.)

The Ironmen (9-2-2, 8-2-1 SVL) rebounded from a loss on Wednesday and outlasted the visiting Black Panthers, 4-3, in Ironmen Stadium in an SVL match originally scheduled for Saturday, September 29. Danville senior TAMIR KHEIRI wasted little time in capitalizing on a Milton defensive mistake in the sixth minute, slotting home the opener on an assist from senior BRYCE PERLES. Danville's defense withstood Milton's first-half attacks and held the 1-0 scoreline through the halftime break. Milton junior Nick Ferguson then recorded a natural hat trick with goals in the 45th, 48th and 55th minutes to quickly give the Black Panters a 3-1 advantage. Milton senior Bryan Kulbacki assisted on the second tally. Danville cut into the lead on an unassisted goal by PERLES in the 65th minute and drew level on a penalty kick by senior JORDAN BEAVER (65th minute) after a Milton defender brought down KHEIRI in the box. PERLES completed the comeback after taking KHEIRI's assist in the 66th minute to give the Ironmen a 4-3 victory. The result secures Danville a PIAA District IV "AA" playoff spot. Danville's JV team dropped its first match of the season to Milton, 1-2. The Ironmen goal came off a 20-yard strike from junior MICHAEL JANTZI, who was assisted by sophomore JAMIE LYNN. Danville next travels to Bloomsburg for an SVL match on Wednesday, October 3, at 4:00 p.m.

The Ironmen dropped a road contest to the host Defenders, 0-1, on a hot and humid afternoon in Turbotville. The early action saw Warrior Run junior forward Levi Malischewski sent off in the 10th minute with a straight red card involving Danville senior defender JORDAN BEAVER. The Defenders were forced to play down a man at 10 players for the duration of the match. Neither team could crack the other's respective defenses in the first half. Danville repeatedly pushed for the winner in the second, but Warrior Run was able to counter with a corner kick against the run of play in the 58th minute, which senior Schulyer Pontius put on junior Cole Mausteller's foot for the only goal of the match. The result ends Danville's seven-match unbeaten streak, which dated back to a 0-1 loss to Hughesville in Ironmen Stadium on Tuesday, September 11. In the JV match, Danville blanked Warrior Run, 2-0, on goals by sophomore ANDREW GENTILUCCI (assist to sophomore MORGAN HUMMEL) and an unassisted goal by sophomore AARON BEAVER. Danville posted a 3-0 road shutout against host Jersey Shore. Ironmen senior TAMIR KHEIRI opened the scoring in the 22nd minute by taking an assist from junior GREG BOWSER and slotting a goal past Bulldog goalkeeper Ethan Bierly. KHEIRI doubled the lead in minute 47 after fellow senior BRYCE PERLES opened up the Jersey Shore back line. KHEIRI completed his afternoon by assisting senior CHRIS BOND on his first career Varsity goal. PERLES' assist was his team-leading 10th of the season, while senior goalkeeper JOSH HACKENBERG and the defense registered the 6th shutout on the campaign. The Ironmen (8-1-2, 7-1-1 SVL) used all 28 available players in the match. Danville travels for a 4:30 p.m. start on Wednesday, September 26, at Warrior Run in an SVL cross-division match.

Selinsgrove @ Danville (W, 3-1)

The Ironmen scored from three restarts to defeat the visiting Seals 3-1 on 25th Anniversary Recognition Night in Ironmen Stadium. Danville (7-1-2, 6-1-1 SVL) was awarded a penalty kick when junior TYLER ROSINI was taken down from behind in the penalty area by Selinsgrove's Kyle Bennar in the 20th minute. Bennar was assessed a yellow card before senior JORDAN BEAVER stepped to the spot and gave Danville a 1-0 lead. Selinsgrove's Dustin Folio then took an assist from Warner Jacob and scored to square the match in minute 29. The first half also included four additional yellow cards for the Seals. Bennar was assessed a second card for physical play, and James Sanders was booked twice, as well, for the same offense. Selinsgrove's bench was also yellow carded before the half was up. Both Bennar and Sanders were ineligible to continue after going into the referee's book twice. Danville's ERIC KISHBAUGH scored the eventual match-winner for the Ironmen after heading in a corner kick from senior BRYCE PERLES early in the second half (minute 46). As Selinsgrove searched for the tie late, Danville senior TAMIR KHEIRI was pulled down from behind by defender Brian Gray -- who was yellow carded -- on a counter-attack. KHEIRI buried the penalty to complete the scoring in the 80th minute. Selinsgrove's bench was assessed another yellow card in the second half, running the card total to seven against none for the Ironmen. KHEIRI's goal was his sixth in the last four matches, while KISHBAUGH's was his second in the last three. In JV action, Danville nicked a 1-0 victory off a first-half goal from sophomore MORGAN HUMMEL (assist to junior ANDREW O'ROURKE). The Ironmen JV squad has not conceded a goal in eight consecutive matches, dating back to opening night at Montoursville. Danville is back in action at Jersey Shore on Monday, September 24, at 4:30 p.m.

Danville rode a natural hat trick from senior TAMIR KHEIRI in a 5-0 defeat of visiting Central Columbia in their SVL divisional match at Varsity Field. KHEIRI headed home the opener in the 35th minute off a lofted assist from senior BRYCE PERLES before the pair got together again on a similar combination to double the lead just ahead of the halftime break in the 39th minute. KHEIRI then took an assist from senior BRIAN BASTIAN in a minute 55 breakaway to complete his day. The Ironmen (6-1-2, 5-1-1 SVL) added another goal off sophomore DYLAN CROPF's first career Varsity touch (assisted by sophomore MORGAN HUMMEL) in the 72nd minute. Junior ANDY SANDERS was assisted by junior DAVID FANELLI to complete the scoring in the 76th minute. Danville senior JOSH HACKENBERG and the defense recorded the fifth shutout of the season. Danville repeated the 5-0 result in JV action. Order of Ironmen JV scoring was: Sophomore FILIPPO GUARINO (assist to junior ANDREW O'ROURKE), HUMMEL (unassisted), HUMMEL (assist to sophomore ANDREW GENTILUCCI), HUMMEL (assist to junior DAN BRABANDER) and CROPF (assist to GENTILUCCI). Danville will recognize the 25th anniversary of soccer at Danville High School on Saturday, September 22, against SVL cross-division opponent Selinsgrove at 7:00 p.m. in Ironmen Stadium.

After taking a first half lead through senior BRYCE PERLES in the 25th minute on an assist from sophomore MICHAEL MENSCH, Danville absorbed Midd-West's leveling goal from Mustang junior Colby Gehers, who was assisted by sophomore Alex Callender in minute 58. Junior ERIC KISHBAUGH's first career score was an extra-time golden goal in the 84th minute to give Danville the 2-1 SVL cross-division result. On the winner, MENSCH headed PERLES' corner kick back in front of the goal mouth before KISHBAUGH finished the rebound to end the match. It was MENSCH's second assist of the night and third in two matches. The win was the second in as many days for the Ironmen, and runs the overall season record to 5-1-2 (4-1-1 SVL). Danville and Midd-West settled for a 0-0 draw in the JV match. The Ironmen JV record is currently 5-0-2. Danville hosts SVL opponent Central Columbia at Varsity Field on Tuesday, September 20, at 4:30 p.m.

Danville (4-1-2, 3-1-1 SVL) bounced back from a frustrating weekend draw with Shamokin on the strength of two goals from senior TAMIR KHEIRI to dispatch Loyalsock 2-0 at Varsity Field. Both teams battled scoreless to the halftime intermission before KHEIRI took an assist from sophomore MICHAEL MENSCH to open Danville's account in the 49th minute. Less than five minutes later in the 54th minute, KHEIRI doubled the advantage on an assist from senior BRYCE PERLES. The goals for KHEIRI were his second and third of the season, drawing him even with junior JERRY TEMMEL for the team lead, while PERLES notched his team-leading sixth assist. In the JV match, Danville saw off the Lancers 1-0 on a goal by sophomore ANDREW GENTILUCCI (assist to sophomore MORGAN HUMMEL). The Ironmen recorded 38 shots to the the Indians' 7 over 100 minutes of play without deciding a winner at Romanoski Field. Shamokin's Gustavo DeSousa took an assist from sophomore Chase Gaille in the 32nd minute to open the scoring. The Ironmen responded as junior JERRY TEMMEL leveled the match on a 37th minute unassisted goal. It was TEMMEL's 3rd goal in the last two matches. Sophomore Shamokin goalkeeper Jarid Spears recorded 30 saves in the match. Both teams struck the goal posts over the course of the contest. Southern Columbia @ Danville (W, 3-1)

The Ironmen -- on the strength of three assists from senior BRYCE PERLES, two goals by junior JERRY TEMMEL, and a goal and assist from junior ANDY SANDERS -- rebounded from their first defeat of the season with a 3-1 victory over the Tigers at Varsity Field. TEMMEL opened the scoring in the 22nd minute off a double assist from SANDERS and PERLES. PERLES lofted a direct kick which SANDERS headed toward the goal before TEMMEL got the last redirect into the net. Only four minutes later, PERLES fed a streaking SANDERS to double the lead. Southern Columbia (2-3) senior Brett Payne then halved the defecit on an unassisted goal in minute 30 before PERLES found TEMMEL on a corner kick in minute 46 to close Danville's scoring. The JV match saw the Ironmen victorious by a 2-0 scoreline. Junior PETER BLANKENSHIP scored unassisted on the first and sophomore ANDREW GENTILUCCI took an assist from junior LUCAS FRANKLIN for the second. Danville (3-1-1, 3-1-1 SVL) travels to Shamokin for a non-league contest on Saturday, September 15, at 7:00 p.m. at Romanoski Field.

Hughesville @ Danville (L, 0-1, OT)

Danville generated 20 shots on goal, but were unable to break down the Hughesville defense as Spartan senior Michael Duff scored a golden goal in the 89th minute on a counter attack to give the visitors a road win. The Ironmen (2-1-1, 2-1-1 SVL) have only scored one goal in the last three matches after netting four on opening day. The extra time goal ended Danville senior JOSH HACKENBERG's run of not conceding a goal to open the season at just shy of 350 minutes. Hughesville junior goalkeeper Dan Fritz registered 12 saves in goal to earn the shutout. In JV action, Danville defeated Hughesville 3-0. Danville hosts Southern Columbia on Thursday, September 13, at 4:30 p.m. at Varsity Field.

The Ironmen defeated the Quakers through senior BRYCE PERLES' second-half strike in Ludwig Stadium. Senior TAMIR KHEIRI provided the assist on the 60th-minute goal as the Ironmen secured the SVL victory. Senior goalkeeper JOSH HACKENBERG registed four saves as the Ironmen defense -- made up of sophomore RYAN REICHARD, juniors JERRY TEMMEL, TYLER MARSHALL, ANDY SANDERS and senior JORDAN BEAVER -- notched a third straight shutout to open the season. In a shortened JV match, Danville defeated Millville 3-0 on two ANDREW GENTILUCCI goals (assist to ANDREW O'ROURKE and unassisted) and a goal from PETER BLAKENSHIP (assist to GENTILUCCI). Danville hosts Hughesville on YOUTH NIGHT in Ironmen Stadium on Tuesday, September 11, at 7:00 p.m. Any boy or girl wearing a soccer jersey will be admitted free of charge.

Danville (1-0-1, 1-0-1 SVL) and Lewisburg (2-1-1, 1-0-1 SVL) battled through regulation and extra time before ending in a 0-0 draw at Varsity Field. The Green Dragons controlled play ahead of the break before the Ironmen drew even as the game wore on. Both teams had chances, with Lewisburg twice hitting posts. Danville's best looks were through senior BRYCE PERLES in the second half and first extra-time period. The Ironmen defense secured its second consecutive shutout to open the season. In JV action, the Ironmen and Green Dragons repeated the 0-0 scoreline. Danville next travels to Ludwig Stadium in Millville for an SVL match on Saturday, September 8, at 7:00 p.m.

Junior GREG BOWSER netted the match-winner for Danville (1-0-0, 1-0-0 SVL) in a 4-0 shutout of host Montoursville (1-1-1, 0-1-0 SVL) in Memorial Stadium. BOWSER took a feed from senior BRYCE PERLES -- who was involved in three of the four Ironmen tallies -- and slotted a left-footed shot past senior Warriors goalkeeper Ian Hanford in the 14th minute. After the break, PERLES doubled the lead in the 42nd minute with an unassisted direct kick before he later assisted on senior JORDAN BEAVER's goal off a corner in minute 56. Senior TAMIR KHEIRI then took an assist from junior TYLER ROSINI in the 68th minute to complete the scoreline and the season-opening victory. Senior goalkeeper JOSH HACKENBERG recorded 5 saves as the entire Ironmen defense earned the shutout. In the JV match, junior ANDREW O'ROURKE put the Ironmen ahead in the first half before the Warriors answered to even the match. Sophomore MORGAN HUMMEL secured the Danville victory with a second-half penalty kick in the season-opening win. Danville hosts defending District IV "A" and SVL champion Lewisburg Thursday, September 6, in a 4:30 p.m. kick-off at Varsity Field.
